Uber reassures NSW riders they are insured!
Following a fiery crash that killed a 17-year-old boy in Sydney, Uber riders in NSW are being reassured they are protected by insurance if injured in an accident. An Uber was caught in an eight-car pile-up after a man allegedly veered onto the wrong side of the road at Woodbine in the city's southwest, killing the 17-year-old and injuring four other people. The accused driver, who remains in hospital, has been charged with 13 offences, including manslaughter. "Our hearts go out to the victim and his family," a spokeswoman told AAP in a statement. "We have reached out to the driver-partner and all his passengers to offer support." Uber said all passengers in NSW, as well as drivers and third parties, are covered by the state's compulsory third-party scheme whenever there's an accident. All Uber drivers also have contingency coverage in case the driver's CTP insurance is exhausted or doesn't apply for some reason. "We want to ensure that riders, as well as members of the community, are protected," the spokeswoman told AAP. #phoenix_risk_services
